What attracts families to Gungahlin

Think of Canberra and images of wide-open spaces and bushlands, come to mind. But the Nation’s Capital is rapidly reinventing itself as a very family friendly-region. Gungahlin is one of the 18 original districts of the ACT. Gungahlin is an Aboriginal word meaning “little rocky hill” or “white man’s house”,

As of 2018 Gungahlin comprised of 17 suburbs, including 3 currently under development. Some of them are Casey, Franklin, Gungahlin, Forde, Mitchell, Ngunnawal, Nicholls and Taylor.

One of Canberra’s most family-friendly neighbourhoods is Bonner, where 66% of households are shared with children. Families can expect to pay around $648,000 for a house in Bonner though apartments are more affordable. Gungahlin is not only flourishing but also driving the nation’s population growth because of the constant development of new suburbs and ACT’s new light rail project.

As the second-fastest growing region in the country, Gungahlin is currently home to 71,000 people up from 47,000 in 2011- an exceptional rate of growth in such a short space of time! Maria Selleck team member Shane calls Casey home and Maria has helped many families over the years finding their dream home in Gungahlin suburbs like Nicholls, Amaroo, Ngunnawal, etc.#mce_temp_url#

With a wide range of medical practices, a number of great schools and colleges, Gungahlin is set to be one of the top preferred neighbourhoods for families looking to settle in Canberra.

Being a developing district the public transport in Gungahlin is still in its primary phase. The ACTION Bus Service provides public transport throughout Canberra and is the only form of regularly scheduled public transport in the Gungahlin district. Private vehicles are necessarily still the preferred mode of transport by the majority of residents of Gungahlin.

A light rail network connecting the Gungahlin Town Centre to Civic is intended to address peak hour congestion between Gungahlin and the city. The project is underway and will help promote the use of public transport in the area.

Families from all over the world have found their perfect home in Gungahlin and are waiting with open arms to welcome more.
